An 8-week internship with Edge Health is an opportunity to build professional expertise and experience how data and analytics is used to support the NHS.


At Edge Health, we believe that data and analytics have enormous potential to transform policy-making and operational efficiency within the NHS and England. We are based in London, delivering consultancy and developing data products to help unlock this potential for our clients.


We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team over the winter period, to support the delivery of both our consulting and product work.


What you will do


The internship will start on February 1st 2021 and last for 8 weeks, with the possibility of subsequently joining as a permanent analyst. We have a preference for candidates for whom this is of interest.

  • Data analysis and visualisation: Apply coding, analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data analysis and visualisation

  • SQL: Use SQL to manage and manipulate large datasets and provide data-driven insights

  • Gain healthcare industry experience: Work in an environment with a passion for working in healthcare and helping others, and be enthusiastic about working closely with our clients and partner organisations

  • Work in a dynamic team: Communicate your ideas clearly in a collaborative environment

  • Adapt and learn quickly: Work in a fast-paced environment, across a diverse range of areas


Skills we are looking for


We greatly value diversity and would welcome applicants from a range of academic and professional backgrounds, though our ideal candidate will:

  • Education and experience: Have background in areas such as statistics, coding, data science, modelling, or mathematics is preferred. This could be developed through academia or professional experience

  • Self-motivated: Be self-driven and versatile, and excited to work within a small and growing start-up;

  • Communicate effectively: Have the ability to engage effectively and enjoyably with a range of people, and to communicate impactfully the findings and implications of your work;

  • Professional skills: Have competency with Microsoft suite (and sound proficiency with Excel)

  • Keen interest for programming: Have a knowledge of coding in SQL (and preferably R) or similar statistical languages, or a willingness and ability to learn how to do so;

  • Willing to approach challenges with an open mind: Have experience of delivering projects and outputs to tight timescales and to a high quality;


About Edge


Edge Health is a start-up of economists and data scientists with backgrounds in statistics, policy, management consulting and healthcare. We have worked for many years with NHS hospitals and policymakers, and are familiar with their intimate workings and their challenges. We use new and innovative technologies centred around use of data to solve these issues at scale.


Since our formation in April 2017 we have grown rapidly and worked with more than 40 NHS organisations, including trusts, commissioners and regulators. Analysis from Edge has appeared in major publications in the UK and abroad such as the Guardian, the Telegraph and HSJ.


We are a client-facing organisation that sees the value in being close to the challenges we are helping to solve. We spend time working directly alongside our clients and enjoy seeing the direct impact of our work on patients and people who work in the NHS.


Details and how to apply:

  • Start date: The role will commence on or after February 1, 2021 and will be for 8 weeks, with the possibility to subsequently join in a permanent role. We have a preference for candidates for whom this is of interest.

  • Location: The role will be partially or fully remote, subject to government legislation. We are based in London, and work from our office here the majority of the time, although the nature of our work can require travel around England. We are open to flexible working arrangements where appropriate.

  • Compensation: Paid at competitive market rates
